If you're in town during the next three days, I suggest you pay a visit to the famous Logos Hope ship at Salalah Port. Evidently it's the largest floating bookfair in the world (but that's what they said about the Doulos ship when it visited Salalah a few years ago). I'll definitely try to make it if my car come out of the vehicle salon. Thanks ShueShue for the information and the brochure!
Thanks so much for posting this; I've been living in Salalah now for a few months, and I always check your blog to find out what's going on around here. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the Logos coming to Muscat soon!
ReplyDeleteHi Nadia - thanks for the post. We got excited and visited it right away yesterday. However, not too impressed by the "collection" of books. Mostly "self-help", the fiction section is tiny and the titles mediocre (Family Bookshop has more to offer in that respect). There are lots of dictionaries and some nice atlases, as well as books on astronomy, horses, and such. Also, a very large collection of various prints of the Bible, which is just weird - and I'm Christian and find it strange :). The books in Arabic are scant, but can't tell you much about that section other than that it is small, hehe.
ReplyDeleteIf people are interested in getting a new cookbook (or several) and/or are interested in children's books (or to take their child/children) - then Logos Hope is highly recommended! :)
Hi Nadia:
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice blog!
I was searching for some articles that came across to ur weblog.
I will visit ur country soon and your recommendation will be most welcome.
Regards,
yasetti
The book fair on the Logos Hope was fantastic! Especially for children but there are also many interesting books for adults. Especially reference books.
ReplyDeleteThe prices are much lower than in the regular book stores.E.g. most children's books don't exceed 3 OMR. And many of them cost only 1 OMR. I think the most expensive book I saw was 6 OMR and that was a very fancy-looking cook book.
So, I can definitely recommend this book fair!
