Interesting article by Martin Dokoupil from Reuters. Read it here ... but make haste! I predict the article will be blocked in Oman within the next 48 hours.
So what is new there, except the garbage the writer thought is new? Oman is on a solid ground with cohesive and well bonded society. There is NO "uncertainty" and there is NO worry.
Further more there is NO "infighting" within the Royal family. Everything is in place for a smooth transition "when" and "if" that dreaded day come, and may God forbid arrival of that day! We pray and wish MAWLANA The Sultan rules for many more decades to come.
DG! Why do you have to upset many people by posting such and article !!
This is a great piece of writing from a very respected writer and trusted media.I personally and strongly agree with content of the article, because it's exactly what's gonna happen if the sultan dies as long as we still live in such uncertainty. Thanks Nadia
To begin with Martin Dokoupil is NOT a respected writer. More of a yellow journalist and part time scare monger. I checked with the other local Reuters correspondents here locally and they have a low opinion of him. Now the issue at hand is not Martins credibility/credentials rather, the rubbish he wrote about.
The government is busy laying down all the necessary infrastructure for the future of our young generation [jobs/housing/education/food security/clean environment etc] besides working hard round the clock to attract foreign investors to come invest in the sultanate so the future generation has ready made job market that will absorb it all. Writing such a trash could jeopardize that effort. An investor could have a second thought. Will that be in the Sultanates interest? Hell NO! I am baffled by this word "Uncertainty" Uncertain about what? The future of Oman and its stability? Well that is double secured. This Dynasty was in place since 1744. It has overcome many hurdles. I.e. external aggression/internal insurgency/world wars and natural calamities. It overcame it all. Oman and its people are now reaping the benefits of the fruits that were sown by 268 years of hard toil.
Finally, I wish say there is nothing to worry about. The sultanate is on the right path and marching in the guiding lights of the BLESSED RENAISANCE and MAWLANA as our torch bearer.
The preservation and development of beautiful Oman as well as the wellbeing of the Omani people to date having been HM Sultan Qaboos’ top priorities, it is not likely that he now runs the risk of his tremendous efforts being jeopardized. The wise and farsighted man he is, I trust the question of succession has already been settled. Moreover, when the day in the hopefully very distant future will come it will be in the power of every Omani – man and woman – to make his/her contribution to a peaceful change.
Mti seems to be such an expert on all the ins and outs here yet she wont post her name. just like everyone else she's out of the loop &anonomisly bullying ppl in the English speaking blogosphere. Good on ya Nadia for not being intimidated. Anon141
Dhofar is the Southern province in the Sultanate of Oman. Salalah is the capital city of Dhofar (in fact, the only main city). Our little corner of the world is unique in many ways. If you look at the labels at the bottom right of this page and check out some of my older posts, you'll know why. As a Dhofari, I have insider's input. If you read my posts (old and new), you'll begin to appreciate (if not already) the richness of our amazing little world. Salalah is very special, and very different. Tribes, nature, mystery, magic, jinn, you name it. If you're wondering why I'm fluent in English, it's because I spent several years studying abroad. However, I am a Salalah girl through and through. I do not blog as often as I used to because my life is insane, but don't give up on me. I do write. I've been writing for EIGHT years! I have a lot of positive (and rather amusing) things to write about. Many of my posts revolve around women. I do not aim to only criticize the society in Salalah or the way of life. I am proud of who we are and how we live. I only intend to tell it as it is.
