Random Salalah Scene..

Only Asians (us included) would know what this photo is all about ..... (read below!)

Cricket match of course! India and Pakistan .... right there in the middle of the road. These are die-hard cricket fans! (note: the television showing the game is actually on sale in that tiny little shop. I love Salalah). I took this photo a few weeks ago on my way to ... somewhere.

Tonight is Salalah's first soccer match at our huge (well, huge to us) new sports stadium out near the mountains. Saudi and Oman. I figure all the tourists from Saudi Arabia are out there cheering.

Brings back memories of the Gulf Cup 19 in January. That was so much fun. I don't have a photo of the completed stadium because I haven't been out there yet, but this is a photo of the model. So, I want to send out a shout to our boys; the National Soccer Team .. 'Go guys!' and pray that they win.

  1. This also happens internationally with football...it's a ploy by the retailer to get you inside!

  2. It always makes me laugh in the Gulf cup when each team does a little du3a'a before the match...is God really going to favour one side over another in a football match? :)

  4. Dude *Omani in US*, I don't think they're praying for God to be on their side. Maybe it's just a small prayer to give them a moment of peace before the game. To help them focus. :-) who knows. Anyway, Oman won!! 2-1 .. both goals by Hassan Rabea'a

Americanising Desi, checked out your profile and need to investigate your blogs :)

  5. I've watched it, had it explained to me, and even tried to play it a few time...but I'll be darned if I'll ever understand cricket!
    Hope your team wins!
    Peace be upon you,
    Jasmine ;0) xx

  10. Umm,,, DhofariChick...

Does your name start with an F ? Or an A? I'm having weird thoughts here. I know a Dhofari Chick in Muscat whose grandmother is from the mountains and who would speak fluent English. . . it's all ... sort of ... making .... sense ....

  15. Salalah-ster, I googled 'Al Saada Sports Complex' when I wrote this post, and this photo appeared along with an article about the Dhofar Municipality and the excitement of opening up the stadium. I tried googling it again but couldn't find it.

  16. And on top of that many sites confuse the "Salalah Sports Complex" located in Auwqad, with the "Al Saadah Sports Complex", located in Al-Saadah and post wrong pics and cause much confusion..
