Weekend!!!!

I'm deliriously happy that it's Wednesday. In three hours I'll be completing the world's LONGEST working week. It felt like forever. Just a quick note because I have no time to blog. The government wasted so much money setting up the traffic lights at Salalah's busiest roundabout (near the Royal Air Force base?) and they F.A.I.L.E.D miserably. They've switched them off now because they were causing so many traffic jams. Why wasn't it better planned? How are they going to solve the traffic problems in Salalah? Build bridges? What a mess.
.
Meanwhile, a reader wrote to me asking for a photo of the famous Omani/Dhofari sandwich (described in my profile) and I felt obliged to post it on Dhofari Gucci. This is what most Dhofari families take on picnics and eat at home as a snack when there's nothing else in the kitchen. It may look plain disgusting but it's actually quite good. I haven't had one for a few years but I'm inspired to go out and find some Chips Oman if they still sell it.
.

Have a great weekend!

  4. I remember once in one of our school classes, we were discussing how Oman is dependent on oil, that if we ran out of oil we're doomed. I remember arguing quite viciously, stating that we do have other sources of income; we have Chips Oman!!

Oh vegemite! If you haven't tasted that you haven't taken your taste buds on an adventure! Like they say; you either love it or hate it. My father had to do so much marketing to get me tasting some, and he succeeded. I had it and thereafter my life changed! My taste buds were never the same again.

  5. Omani in US - an EGG???????? Ewwwww!!!

Shahrazad, I hate marmite, so I think I won't enjoy vegemite! In fact, I don't like salty things at all, so no one can recruit me to the vegemite/marmite/saltite fanclub!Oman also has Zait Sohar, don't forget!!

  6. I guess its a bottle of the hot stuff in each sandwich ! :) - in Muscat they are converting the roundabouts to junctions with lights and the difference is amazing MUCH better - at Darsait practically no wait

  7. Nadia yes, a bit of scrambled egg/omelette in there with the chips, cheese and daqoos. In Muscat lots of guys will get that from the work cafeteria first thing in the morning.

Personally I have never tasted this sandwich because I'd like to protect myself from heart attacks :) but I might try when I am home in December...

  10. Well, we learnt about this sandwich when my daughter was admitted to Lhoula Hospital for 40 days. My daughter loved it... and as um3azzan says in Oman nothing is complete without the Mountain Dew... not only for the ctizens but for young expatraite children too...
